In Hinduism, the aromatic wood (chandanam) is revered. Chandan comes from the Sanskrit root Cadi. Sandal powder is most commonly used in poojas. It’s usually applied as a paste to idols during abishekam and smeared on devotees’ foreheads as a tilak. It is thought to calm the Agni Chakra.
